The Sun

The Monarchy will not last another generation in its present form. . . . Can even Charles (Windsor) save the monarchy in the longer term? Is it not, by its very nature, a thing of the past? . . . Charles' gamble is that a downsized monarchy will save the crown. Our guess is that it may - for one generation at the most. After that, all bets are off. This is our country. Why do they have a right to be heads of it?

The Mirror

The monarchy must go. That is the inescapable conclusion of Simple Sophie's royal circus. . .. She has done the rest of us a big favour by putting a monster question mark over the future of the House of Windsor. And about time. The excesses of the foolish, self-indulgent and wayward children of the Queen - those who would rule us, let us not forget - cry out for radical change. Nor reform, because that would be a failure to grasp the nettle. Abolition is the only way forward, however long it takes.
